Removable implant-supported prostheses

The solution for secure denture retention

dental implants Adliswil

Your new security when eating and laughing

Have you had enough of wobbly full dentures, pressure points and adhesive cream? Would you like a prosthesis that fits securely and no longer slips out of place? Removable implant-supported dentures offer you the best of both worlds: They sit firmly and securely anchored in the mouth by the implants – without wobbling or slipping. You simply remove the prosthesis for daily cleaning – for optimum hygiene and easy care.

The problem: dentures without sufficient support

When teeth are lost, the jaw bone recedes due to a lack of load – a process that doctors refer to as resorption. The more this bone loss progresses, the more problematic it becomes to wear a conventional full denture. They no longer find sufficient support.

The consequences in everyday life are considerable: uncertainty when chewing, unclear pronunciation, pressure marks on the gums and the constant worry that the denture could slip – especially in social situations when laughing or talking. Many denture wearers turn to adhesive cream every day, which only helps to a limited extent and tastes unpleasant.

The solution: removable implant-supported prostheses

This is where our treatment approach comes in: We create a stable anchorage for your denture through the targeted use of a small number of implants. The implants take over the function of natural tooth roots, prevent further bone loss and give your prosthesis the necessary support.

In contrast to conventional dentures, an implant-supported denture sits securely and firmly – without wobbling, without pressure points and without adhesive cream. At the same time, you can remove them for cleaning – this ensures optimum oral hygiene.

Who are removable implant-supported prostheses suitable for?

The treatment concept is particularly suitable for patients in the following situations:

Toothless jaw with ill-fitting denture
Your full denture is no longer secure, causes pressure points and restricts your quality of life.

Severe bone loss
Years of wearing a denture have caused the jawbone to recede considerably – the denture is no longer held in place.

Daily use of adhesive cream
You are tired of using adhesive cream every day, which tastes unpleasant and only helps to a limited extent.

Insecurity when eating and speaking
You want to be able to eat, laugh and speak again without fear of a slipping prosthesis.

Desire for good hygiene
You want to be able to clean your dentures thoroughly every day and attach importance to optimum oral hygiene.

Individual clarification required

We will clarify whether removable implant-supported dentures are suitable for your personal situation in a detailed consultation with 3D diagnostics. We analyze your initial situation and show you all possible treatment options.

Optimum aesthetics and function

Removable implant-supported dentures offer you a natural look and a secure hold. Size and color can be individually adjusted. Eating and laughing are now possible again without any worries.

Good price-performance ratio

Implant-supported dentures only require four to six implants per jaw. You receive a secure hold and significantly more comfort than with conventional dentures without implants - an optimum ratio between investment and improved quality of life.

Sustainable results

After the healing phase, your existing prosthesis is adapted to the anchors OR a newly fabricated prosthesis is inserted (depending on the condition and planning) The implants prevent further bone loss and can last a lifetime with good care - a permanent solution for a better quality of life.

Proven process

The treatment concept of implant-supported prostheses has been used successfully worldwide for over 25 years. Studies confirm a long-term success rate of 98%. With good care, the implants can last a lifetime and provide you with a permanent secure hold.

What are "removable implant-supported prostheses"?

With this proven method, four implants per jaw are usually strategically positioned and firmly anchored in the jawbone. After the healing phase of 3-6 months, anchoring elements (e.g. locators or bars) are attached to the implants.

Depending on the condition of your existing prosthesis, it will then be adjusted or a new prosthesis will be fabricated that snaps securely onto the anchors – similar to a push button.

The most important thing:

The prosthesis sits firmly and securely in the mouth without wobbling thanks to the mechanical anchoring. Simply remove it for cleaning – for optimum hygiene and easy care.

Removable vs. fixed restoration

Advantages of fixed dentures:

Not sure which solution is right for you?

Removable implant-supported prostheses:

Removable for daily cleaning, but firmly anchored in the mouth by mechanical anchoring (locators, bars or telescopes). You can remove and clean the prosthesis yourself – this ensures optimum hygiene. It sits securely and firmly in the mouth thanks to the implants, without adhesive cream and without wobbling.

Fixed full-jaw restoration (“fixed teeth in one day”):

Screw-retained or cemented – cannot be removed by you, just like your own teeth. Offer maximum comfort and stability, but require professional cleaning in the dental practice.

The main difference: fixed dentures offer maximum stability and comfort, while removable implant-supported dentures are an excellent improvement over conventional dentures and offer the advantage of easy cleaning.

We will be happy to discuss which solution is best for you in a personal consultation – with transparent cost estimates for both options.

Only 4 to 6 implants for a secure hold

Normally, four implants are sufficient in the lower jaw. Six implants may be advisable in the upper jaw due to the softer bone structure. Modern techniques such as 3D X-rays, Primescan and computer-assisted planning enable a minimally invasive procedure and a quick recovery.

Advantages of this solution

Removable implant-supported dentures offer you significantly more security and quality of life than conventional full dentures. Thanks to the mechanical anchoring via the implants, your denture sits firmly without wobbling – adhesive cream is a thing of the past. You can bite with renewed vigor while the implants prevent further bone loss.

Advice &
Diagnostics

In a detailed consultation, we take time for you and clarify your dental situation and treatment wishes with you.

We clarify the following questions together:

  • What is the condition of your current prosthesis and jaw?
  • Is your existing prosthesis still in good condition or should a new one be made?
  • How severe is the bone resorption?
  • What is your general state of health?
  • What type of anchoring is suitable for you? (locators, bars, telescopes)
  • What is the best solution for your situation?
  • Would you like a twilight sleep or general anesthesia treatment?
  • Which form of anesthesia is suitable for you?

After careful diagnostics using three-dimensional X-ray technology(⇢ DVT), we will present you with a treatment tailored to you and its alternatives. We will also discuss whether a fixed solution is an option for you.

Your optimal treatment and the possible alternatives are always planned individually for you and your situation by our specialists. You will receive a correspondingly tailored offer.

Finally, you decide on your treatment path and we implement it together with you.

Treatment planning
OP procedure

At this second appointment, we will discuss the surgical procedure and the desired result with you (surgical information).

  • Creation of a ⇢ 3D DVT X-ray image (if not already available)
  • Measurement of facial proportions and digital impression / bite registration with ⇢ Primescan
  • Creating the photo status
  • Functional analysis of the temporomandibular joints to determine the ideal bite
  • Digital pre-planning of the implants
  • Selection of the type of anchorage (locators, bars, telescopes)
  • Clarification of whether your existing prosthesis will be adapted or a new one fabricated
  • Information about the procedure and the course of treatment

The implant operation is planned digitally and three-dimensionally at this appointment in order to simulate the future position of the dental implants and the future fit of your implant-supported prosthesis and to coordinate them precisely.

Postoperative
controls

One day after the operation, the wound is checked and at the same time the situation after implantation and the fit of your adapted prosthesis is checked. You will also be instructed by our specially trained assistants in the correct cleaning and care of the prosthesis and implants.

After 10 days, the sutures are removed and the implants and your prosthesis are checked again. Our specially trained assistants will also discuss your experience with cleaning and care and you will be instructed again if necessary.

Healing phase: 3-6 months

During this time, the implants grow firmly into the jawbone (osseointegration). In the meantime, you wear your customized temporary prosthesis. The implants are protected with cover caps during the healing phase.

If a new prosthesis is planned: During the healing phase, your new prosthesis will be fabricated in the dental laboratory, which will later be matched to the anchoring elements.

5th appointment: insertion of the implant-supported prosthesis (after 3-6 months)

After successful healing of the implants:

  • Removal of the end caps from the implants
  • Installation of anchoring elements (locators, bars or telescopes)
  • Adaptation of your existing prosthesis to the anchors OR insertion of a newly fabricated prosthesis (depending on condition and planning)
  • Incorporation of the opposing parts (matrices) into the prosthesis
  • Checking hold, function and bite situation
  • Instruction in handling and care

You leave our practice with a securely anchored stabilized prosthesis – without wobbling, without adhesive cream, with a significantly better quality of life.

6. aftercare: regular check-ups

  • Check after 1 week
  • Check after 4 weeks
  • Annual check-up appointments
  • Professional cleaning of implants, anchoring elements and prosthesis

Frequently asked questions
Removable implant-supported prostheses

Can I remove the prosthesis myself?

Yes, that is one of the advantages. You remove the prosthesis for daily cleaning. However, it is firmly anchored in the mouth and does not wobble.

Do I still need adhesive cream?

No, the mechanical anchoring via the implants makes adhesive cream superfluous.

How long does the treatment take?

The implant operation itself takes about 2-3 hours per jaw. You should plan a full day of treatment (approx. 8-9 hours) for preparation, anesthesia recovery and fitting your prosthesis. The healing phase lasts 3-6 months. The anchoring elements are then fitted and your prosthesis is either adjusted or, if necessary, remade.

Will my old prosthesis be used or will I get a new one?

This depends on the condition of your existing prosthesis. If it is still in good condition, it can be adapted and fitted with the anchoring elements. If it is older or does not fit perfectly, we will make a new prosthesis for you. We will make this decision together during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions about immediate restoration implants

Are there any risks?

Every surgical procedure carries risks. Swelling, pain and sometimes infections can occur after the operation. Our highly specialized implantology is minimally invasive and thus helps to minimize the risks.

When can I return to sport after treatment?

Sport and physical exertion should be avoided for a few days.

How do I clean the implant-supported prosthesis?

You remove the denture daily and clean it as usual with a toothbrush and denture cleaner. In addition, you clean the implants and anchoring elements in your mouth with a soft toothbrush and interdental brushes. Our assistants will show you the correct technique.

How long do removable implant-supported prostheses last?

With careful care and regular check-ups, the implants can last a lifetime. The anchoring elements (locators/matrices) can be replaced after a few years if necessary, and the prosthesis itself can also be replaced if required.

What is the difference to fixed solutions?

Fixed solutions (“fixed teeth in one day”) are firmly screwed in place and cannot be removed by you – just like your own teeth. Removable implant-supported prostheses can be removed for cleaning, but sit securely and firmly in the mouth thanks to the anchoring on the implants.

The main difference lies in comfort: fixed dentures offer maximum stability and comfort, while removable implant-supported dentures are an excellent improvement over conventional dentures and offer the advantage of easy cleaning.

We will be happy to discuss which solution is best for you in a personal consultation – with transparent cost estimates for both options.
