Functional diagnostics and temporomandibular joint measurement

Reaching the goal with precise diagnostics

The functional analysis is used to check the functional condition and interaction of teeth, muscles and jaw joints. If temporomandibular joint problems, muscle or facial pain or stress-related tension are present, the cause could be a malfunction in the interaction of these structures. In this case, CMD (craniomandibular dysfunction) is present.

The required examination consists of a clinical analysis (questions about the clinical picture, examination of the muscles and joints) and an instrumental analysis (measurement of the temporomandibular joint, determination of the correct bite position).

With the help of the values from the temporomandibular joint measurement, the articulators (joint simulation devices) can be programmed very precisely with the patient-specific, individual values. Using exact models of the patient, the three-dimensional position of the lower jaw in relation to the upper jaw is examined in relation to the position of the temporomandibular joints outside the mouth, so that a precise and individualized diagnosis and treatment is possible. Ultimately, knowledge of the patient’s individual temporomandibular joint pathways is also a fundamental prerequisite for accurately fitting, functional and therefore long-lasting dentures.

For clinical-instrumental functional diagnostics, we use the high-end device from the CADIAX series - the CADIAX 4

CADIAX provides all relevant TMJ-related movement data for the diagnosis of your jaw. The use of this system offers the following advantages:

  • Real-time screen control
  • Motion simulations
  • Clear display variants of the measurement results

Chewing performance test CHEW.

Recognizing the chewing efficiency of the is an essential part of the diagnosis of jaw problems. We rely on the CHEW chewing efficiency test for this purpose. This test enables us to measure and visualize the status of chewing efficiency. At the same time, you can be sure that any abnormalities are detected at an early stage and the optimum treatment solution is initiated.

The results of the standardized chewing efficiency test also make it easy for you as a patient to understand possible treatment indications, as the digital reports take individualized normal ranges into account. This gives you maximum transparency for any further treatment that may be necessary.

BRUX:

Recognize crunching, minimize risk.

Teeth grinding is an unconscious process that often only becomes conscious when problems occur. Wear and tear, fractures and chipping of dental material are often the result of bruxism.
ight is more annoying than the fracture of a recently fitted restoration. With the information from the BRUX digital report, we can take targeted measures to counteract this. The risk of chipping of restorations and prosthetic restorations can thus be minimized.

Functional diagnostics & temporomandibular joint measurement - Dentist Dr. Becker for functional therapy for craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD)

Innovative functional diagnostics for optimum safety

Nothing is as important as perfect dental function. That’s why we use state-of-the-art technology to treat our patients. Your personal data forms the basis of all treatments. Only after detailed functional diagnostics is an individual, functional therapy developed. This ensures that all findings are precisely tailored to your needs.
Functional analysis enables us to examine the condition and functional interaction of teeth, jaw joints and muscles and identify malfunctions. The reason for these malfunctions, which usually manifest themselves in jaw and facial pain, is often stress-related tension. In technical jargon, we refer to this as craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD for short).
Whether you need a TMJ measurement, dentures using the Slavicek method, a brux checker according to Prof. Sato or a professional bite correction – we offer you exclusively customized solutions.

Perfect basis for efficient treatment of craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD)

To ensure that your CMD treatment is successful, all information, for example from the temporomandibular joint measurement, is implemented in the planning. First, all data from the temporomandibular joint measurement, oral rehabilitation according to Slavicek, bite elevation or Brux-Checker are precisely analyzed. In this way, we achieve the exact concept that is tailored to the patient’s personal needs. The holistic analysis and visualization according to Slavicek and the consideration of all patient data are the ideal complement when it comes to areas of application such as bite elevation with the Brux-Checker, implants or dentures.

Optimize annoying teeth grinding with the Brux-Checker

Prof. Sato’s tried-and-tested procedure restores hope to suffering patients. Finally, weak points in the jaw can be localized and partially or completely eliminated. All relevant findings are collected as the basis for the diagnosis.

These are: manual and instrumental functional diagnostics, chewing function analysis, brux checker analysis and functional therapy. If CMD(craniomandibular dysfunction) is detected, the upper and lower jaw are examined for possible problems. Any deviations from the norm can provide important information on how to proceed. All parameters for functional therapy are evaluated in close cooperation with our patients after the functional diagnostics have been carried out.

Slavicek - Harmony of esthetics & healthy oral cavity visualized

Our goal is holistic rehabilitation.

This means that every functional therapy is examined for the entire masticatory apparatus. This method is based on the findings of the Viennese dentist Prof. Dr. Rudolf Slavicek, which are still revolutionizing dentistry today. Today, his son Prof. Dr. Gregor Slavicek carries on his teachings. The consistent visualization of existing dysfunctions (CMD) gives patients a completely new view of dental necessities. The comprehensive measurement of the temporomandibular joint results in a diagnosis and, in turn, a treatment recommendation. In most cases, this is initially a splint therapy. However, not all splints are the same. The production of a splint depends on the measured values for which type of splint it is. In the case of severely misaligned teeth, the recommendation could also be orthodontic treatment, or the optimization of the tooth position through bite elevation or the elimination of tooth gaps through implants and prostheses – functional therapy is always carried out after visualized functional diagnostics.

The satisfaction of our patients is the best motivation

The holistic approach to functional diagnostics according to Salvicek, known as oral rehabilitation, makes the dependency of different decision parameters visible. The functionality of each step is checked throughout the therapy. This results in an enormous increase in the quality and sustainability of all treatments. Permanent quality control guarantees the highest level of professionalism. This benefits our patients as well as the reputation of our dental practice in Seefeld.

Professor Dr. Gregor Slavicek presented the new chewing function test at the OREHAB MINDS GmbH stand at IDS 2019. This test can be used to measure and visualize the efficiency of chewing function. The difference to the optimum can also be visualized with the masticatory function test. The treatment plan for craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) can be specifically coordinated based on the results.
Functional Oral Rehabilitation according to Professor Dr. Gregor Slavicek is based on interdisciplinary dental treatment and therapy.

Measuring the temporomandibular joint with absolute precision - treating CMD with functional diagnostics

With an innovative temporomandibular joint measurement, the restriction of mobility in the lower or upper jaw can now be made absolutely transparent. This means that the patient’s complaints can not only be felt, but also precisely localized. During functional diagnostics, facts such as facial muscles, bone density, stability and also the extent of existing degeneration in the relevant jaw regions are determined. As with bite correction, there are numerous non-invasive options for your CMD treatment that promise relief. Together with the relevant resources, the optimal solution is defined and implemented in the treatment for craniomandibular dysfunction. The entire functional therapy is tailored to the patient’s individual situation so that an improved quality of life can be achieved.
As an experienced CMD therapy team, we at the dental practice in Seefeld use all our expertise to meet the highest standards.
